Responsibilities

The Board of Fire Engineers is appointed by the Board of Selectmen. They oversee the Financial Operations of the Department and approve all expenditures for Fire & Ambulance. They approve all expenditures and conduct the annual appointment of department officers. Please visit the Dover Fire Department page to learn more about their services.

Dover Town Code Description of Responsibilities

There shall be a 3-member Board of Engineers appointed by the Board of Selectmen on a rotating basis of 1 member each year for a 3-year term. Upon the expiration of terms of the Board of Engineers in the first year after the effective date of this provision, the Board of Selectmen shall appoint 1 member for a 1-year term, one member for a 2-year term and one member for a 3-year term, and in every year thereafter, upon the expiration of any member’s term, shall appoint each member for a term of 3 years. The Board of Fire Engineers’ duties and authority shall include, but shall not be limited to, those specified in Massachusetts General Laws (MGL) Chapter 48, Sections 45 to 49, 51 to 54, 74 to 75, specifically including the authority to appoint the Fire Department officers and the responsibility to approve and oversee the financial operations of the Department.
