Dover Town Library to Open for Full Service: July 1stFooter Town of Dover

The team and the Trustees at the Dover Town Library are planning to open the building with full hours of operation and service on July 1, 2021.

Why not tomorrow?

Despite the recent changes in state guidelines, the library has hurdles to clear that aren't specifically related to masks, vaccinations, social distancing, and COVID risk.

  • During the pandemic, we reconfigured our work spaces and equipment to comply with health regulations for staff to safely provide library services. We must now return the main floor to the comfortable layout our patrons enjoy.
  • We are in the process of hiring several positions to bring the library staff back to pre-pandemic size. As with many organizations and sectors, some of our staff pivoted their careers and left to deal with the "new normal" and changing personal circumstances. We are also expanding the team to support new hours and services after reopening, including keeping some of the hidden blessings of the pandemic—curbside delivery and virtual programs.
  • Lastly, the library requires a thorough "spring cleaning" before opening.

Our sleeves are rolled up and we are working with other town departments to complete this needed transformation.

In the meantime, we continue to offer all services in some form. Our building is open for selected browsing Tuesday 2-4 and Thursday 11-1. Since last summer, we have provided curbside pick-up, virtual programming, reference desk support, digital collections, and more—which helped many of our patrons navigate these past months.

If you need assistance, our librarians are always ready to help: (508) 785-8113. Or visit us online at our website and social media to reconnect with all the library offers, including a full summer of outdoor programming for all ages: dovertownlibrary.org.
